Many of you might not remember Becky here— she worked with the us for a good chunk of 2018— and lived with to us and Nannie’s my girls (Addie was 2 at the time!)

She’s since moved to Colorado and we don’t get to see her often— but when we do, it’s priceless.

People matter. You matter.

Destination Hilliard is hosting For the Love of Hilliard from 11-2p AND IT IS GONNA BE FUN!

We’ll have pupusas for sale (an incredible Salvadoran food— in honor of our late friend Daniel) PLUS activities and tons of vendors!

And we’ll be selling this sweet “shades of blue” lemonade!

LEFT FIELD

Sitting at dinner, Addie posed a question: should I change my last name to Reed when I grow up?

Instantaneously, I burst into laughter. Each Grenier around the table reacted differently to her question. Aunnica was shocked, Ari embarrassed, Aliza clueless and Nate soaking in the moment.

Realizing her question created some chaos-- Addie immediately explained-- you know, with Asher. When I marry him. Should I be a Grenier, or a Reed?

Left. Field.

You can imagine how the remainder of our dinner conversation went. We assured her it was her choice-- BUT that she had LOTS of time to think about it-- and that she shouldn't worry about whether or not she's marrying one of her dearest friends (who lives near cleveland- whew).

As the night progressed--- it became clear where this "outta left field question for me" came from. The nuts and bolts-- Addie's 3rd grade teacher got married this summer, and had a book in class with her Maiden name on it.... and left field was discovered.

This week has been wild. If ever a week could be described as left field-- this is it:

It started last Friday.

*The grinder at the shop broke
*2 of the 3 waffle irons stopped working saturday
*The generator got stolen
*My most dramatic daughter -to my disbelief-- could get more dramatic when hormones enter the picture
*yesterday the backup fridge that we thought we fixed stopped cooling and we lost $100+ worth of eggs

These are just the highlights. It's been wild.

Life is hard. And as Nate reminded me so eloquently Wednesday, we can't control what happens-- we can only control our response.

I was humbled by the outpouring of love we received-- offers to help us replace our stolen generator. And words of encouragement. And words of processing-- because some situations suck... and processing them in safe space matters.

Despite the disaster-- there was beauty.

Might I encourage you this Friday Friends?

Choose joy. Even in the middle of left field.

UPDATE: Hilliard is an INCREDIBLE community. We've had so many people reach out offering to let us borrow generators-- Guess we'll be scheduling that waffle bar sooner than I thought!

Guess what’s missing?? our generator.

We discovered yesterday that someone stole our generator. There’s tire tracks and everything.

We use the generator for waffle bar and July 4th… so until we can save enough to replace it - waffle bars won’t be happening. I’d gotten these stickers to use for a fun promo… instead, we’ll use them to help fund the generator replacement.

Because you can’t keep a diva down.

Life is hard. Press on. We don’t know who would do such a crazy thing— we only pray that perhaps this generator provides power to those who desperately needed it. (I Sharon, also hoped it might break— but Nate reminded me the importance of choosing blessing instead)

The generator was our first purchase with the coffee bike over 10 years ago— kinda surreal it’s gone.

Just us. Over here being super transparent —sometimes life is wildly challenging. You can’t control the circumstance. Only how you choose to respond.
